In the past, through to the present, agriculture, including traditional and more recent developments of food production, has always been an industry with a large carbon footprint. Not only has the agricultural equipment been an issue with contributing to pollution, but the farming and food production practices have not been environmentally friendly.
A Different Approach to Farm Tech
At EcoTech Visions, we have a different approach to providing the services and support needed for sustainable, environmentally friendly methods of food production. We work with entrepreneurs with a focus on organic, locally grown and harvested foods that are not only fresh, but that is also an ideal match for our focus on creating the ideal space for green-based start-up companies.
The range of different options for farm tech companies is extensive and continually expanding. To assist ecopreneurs in this area, our incubator for green manufacturing and production offers expertise and support in the following areas:
- Hydroponics – not a new technology but constantly evolving and improving, hydroponics is the process of growing food crops in nutrient-rich water without the need for soil. Using naturally occurring nutrients and minerals in the water allow for true organic production and extremely low energy requirements for both growth and harvesting.
- Aquaculture – traditional methods of commercial fishing is both energy inefficient as well as damaging to fish populations in the wild. Aquaculture is the farming of both animals and plants from the water in a controlled location that maximizes environmentally-friendly cultivation, growth, and harvesting.
- Aquaponics – Aquaponics is a unique method to combine the production of aquatic animals and plants. It is a largely self-sustaining system with the fish providing fertilizer for the plants, and the water shared in the system for an extremely low environmental footprint with maximum production possible.
- Aeroponics – a further refinement to hydroponics, aeroponics uses a nutrient mist to grow crops. This means there is no need for either soil or water-based planting, allowing for more compact growth areas and promoting an organic, sustainable, and low-energy production and harvesting method ideal for any number of food crops.
EcoTech Visions provides support for startup businesses in all of these areas, included in BlueTech sustainable food production. To learn more about our farm tech initiatives, contact us today at 305-399-5556.
